According to the AKC breed standard, the Border Collie should stand from 18 to 22 inches at the withers, with the body length slightly exceeding the wither height. The balance between the body length, height, and bone structure is more important than any measurement taken separately. Hard working condition is a must for every show champion. Excess weight is a serious fault in this breed. The expression of the Border Collie is intelligent and alert. This breed comes in two coat varieties: rough and smooth, both having dense water-resistant coats with a wooly undercoat and straight or wavy outer coat.
